Match Report-Hutchesons’ Under 15 v Marr College, Troon-Saturday 1st March

Report by Michael Dodds, S3

Last Saturday (1.3.08) our under 15’s rugby team took on Marr College away for our second match against them this season. At the start of the season they beat us convincingly so we were very determined to set the record straight. The conditions were not perfect, with a strong wind blowing across the pitch but both teams refused to let the weather affect the quality of rugby on show and we entered half time with Marr in the lead by just two points with the score at 14-12. In the second half however Hutchie took over, scoring two unanswered tries and containing the opposition superbly in defence. The match ended 24-14 to Hutchie and highlighted the great progress the team has made since the beginning on the season

My thanks to Michael for this succint account of a well-played game of rugby played in pretty blustery and often very cold conditions.

Match Report Hutchesons’ 3rd Year B v George Watons College, Saturday 23rd February

With the home games agt Auldhouse cancelled after heavy rain, it was left to the Primary school and third year teams to represent the School against GWC. We arrived at Myreside to a pleasantly dry morning, the clouds having partly dispersed as we tavelled east along the M8.
The Third Year Bs put up a valiant defence, with some committed tackling, but were overwhelmed by Watons’. We were unable to win much ball from set pieces, conceding possession after too many line outs and scrums. We could have exploited the strong wind that was in our favour in the first half,to gain more ground by kicking and passing could have been more accurate at times. However, the team played with heart and determination, right up to the final whistle. A few good kicks did yield useful opportunities for Hutchie by getting the ball into Watson’s 22, but we were unable to press home the advantage. In the event we lost 24-0

  1. Couldn’t believe Scotland – France match. The ref was completely biased, I’m English however so it isn’t that bad that Scotland lost.

  2. Well, everyone’s entitled to her opinion, Harriet! What made you think the referee was biased?

  4. Hi!
I support England and and I was shocked when England lost to Wales but I hope they win their next game against Italy. I was pleased when Scotland lost to France and Dan Parks was very careless.

  6. When did they beat Ireland? The Six Nations match v Ireland is on 23rd February! Re France, not sure it was just a case of lucky bounces; there seem to be a number of problems with Scotland’s game; the Scotsman newspaper asked some experts for their advice and the key things they identified were getting the basics right; ball retention; tackle; breakdown and possession. John Beattie identifies the breakdown as the biggest problem; Fin calder feels we lack confidence in the midfield. One reader of the Scotsman reckons Scotland is still playing 1970s rugby (that’s when I was at school, playimng 2nd row with Greenock Academy!). which I think he means a kind of lumbering game, not suited to the fast paced play of our opponents.

I can’t believe were sitting in last place in the six nations. Lets hope they can get a result next week against Ireland. I’m confident, are you?
Personally I think France shall win it! They have won all their matches so far!

I think scotland have been poor so far there attack has been dire. They were outclassed by France, Wales and Ireland. the Ireland game was a slight bonus because golden boots Simon Webster scored their first try in goodness knows how long. They gave the Irish too many opportunities.
