Mesosaurus and Plate Tectonics

Mesosaurus was a dinosaur. Its fossil remains have been found in Africa and South America. Mesosaurus did not fly; it did not swim.
How can its fossils be found in two continents separated by the Atlantic Ocean?

What does Mesosaur tell us about the Earth’s plates?

  1. I am utterly confused. You seem to be implying that mesosaurus provides evidence of continental drift, because it is found in disparate locales. Ok; that much is true enough, I guess. But you do so by asserting that it did not fly or swim. But it DID SWIM. Mesosaurus was entirely aquatic. (Also, it was not a dinosaur, technically; it was an early reptile, but in all other respects, it was only distantly related to the dinosaurs.) You have drawn the right conclusions from inaccurate assertions.

  2. Eric, thanks; always good to get feedback. Could mesosaurus swim the vast distances required if the continents were separated?
