Sustainable Food

Here’s an interesting slide presentation I found on SlideShare. Given the current concerns about world food shortages and rising prices, it seem more important than ever to consider the world’s food supply and how we can avoid people falling into famine and starvation.

  1. Hi Mr McDougall,
I was watching the slideshow and thought to myself, why are we having food flown over from countries when there are 825million people starving in the world. Even worse while we’re eating our dinner, lunch or breakfast a child is dying(every 5 seconds) . This makes me sad :( and i think whatever a country makes like..meat and fruit should be given to the country and should be equally given out among the pepole( this will stop obesity and anorexia too as people will get the same amount of food!), I don’t think this is an extreme measure I think it’s a way to stop global warming as there will be no flying food to countries. I also think to start this off we should give a set amount of food and supplies to the countries(like africa) where lots of pepole are starving to give them a bit of a kick start! This way we will all have the same! There may still be rich and poor countries but at least everyone will be well fed!

  2. When I was reading these slides I was shocked at all the figures that were explaining all the poverty in the world and how poor inosent people are dying. The most shocking thing is a child dies every five seconds, this upsets me and annoyes me that we can’t do anything about it. But we could if we tried……..! When we go to the supermarket to get our shopping look for food that doesn’t have many food miles. The slide made very goodn points and some of them it took me a long time to work out.

  3. Hello Mr McDougall :)

After watchin the slide show i took a minute to take it all in. There are some very shocking figures and some of them disturbed and shocked me. I think that we should all try and make a bigger effort to help everyone in the world and not just our own country. Our country(U.K) is a very fortunate country and not many of us have to worry about starving to death !! So i think that instead of just thinking about ourselves and our country we should start to think about other countries and how we could help them as some of them are in very severe poverty.

  4. After watching this slide show I was upset, and at the same time extremely annoyed about all the poverty. A few of the facts were disturbing and shocked me deeply. A child dies every 5 seconds because of lack of food. It annoys me because we can do things to stop it. If we dont start soon helping the less developed countries it could be too late.
Now that I think about it I find that I am very lucky to live in a good house and to be fed good food. There is no chance of me starving to death, (I hope!!!)
This slide has changed the way I think on poverty, I will pay more attention when I go shopping now and ensuring it is all organic products.

  6. hi

i loved the slide show and found it very interesting. i found the information very good and i never knew that food took such a long journey to get to britain and the picture of the train was very interesting. the brainteasers were confusing and i never knew that many people died in Africa each year. every 5 seconds. the farmers get next to no money and the products are sold at high prices. this makes me think the farmers are not making enough money when they are doing all the work.

over all, the slide show was very good and interesting to wach.
